Outeniqua Moon is a Percheron stud, in Ruiterbos, Mossel Bay, run by a group of incredibly passionate people, who are determined to keep the breed alive and well. Percherons have been bred throughout history for their incredible strength and overwhelming beauty. They were used by royalty in countries across the world to pull carriages, and were essential to the farmers who used them to plough their lands. During the Medieval period, Heavy Draft Horses were fully armoured and carried knights into battle. Being the work horses, Percherons were replaced by machines during the industrial revolution, when they were no longer needed. Outeniqua Moon offers us all the opportunity to interact with these beautiful gentle giants, with carriage-rides around their magnificent grounds - with a backdrop of the Outeniqua Mountain Range and sweeping views of Leeukloof Valley.
