In July 2002, nine miners were rescued from 240 feet beneath the earth in a never before attempted effort. Visitors will see the actual rescue capsule and broken drill bit and hear the store of the miraculous events that took place here.
In July 2002, just months after the terrorist attacks, nine miners became trapped in an underground mine just outside of Somerset, PA. After 77 tense hours all nine were rescued. The Rescue Site Museum was established to memorialize the efforts to rescue the men.
