Porta Romana is the gateway to the South of the walls of Florence. Mail on the road to Siena and Rome and is still an important point of access to the city centre. It's the second door for greatness after porta San Frediano and how the latter still retains the giant wooden doors supposedly original, provided a dense nailing.
Fragment of medieval Florentine walls, this is one of the original gates still in tact with iron-nail-studded door and its Madonna fresco above to bless and protect comings & goings of everyday life.
Porta Romana is the southernmost city Gate; it is located at the confluence between Via dei Serragli and Via Romana and is still today one of the most important access points to the centre.
Porta Romana belongs to the ancient walls of Florence, dating back to the 14th century, and it is the largest and best preserved gate of the city.
