Salamanca and the docks area of Hobart is a great place to go for dinner, a drink, or a bit of local nightlife.

Salamanca is very close to the centre of Hobart. It has many restaurants featuring Tassie seafoods, many popular bars, as well as many popular tourist attractions.

For the younger crowd, Salamanca is the place to be for drinking on weekends. The most popular bars are all set in the same block so you don't have to go far but you'll tend to see the same people, and in winter months or on weeknights some bars close earlier so everyone ends up in the same place. Grape is good, and other popular places are Cargo, The Brick Factory and Bar Celona (all around Salamanca Square). Further around the wharf there is the Telegraph bar, the Observatory nightclub and the Lower House, and frankly they're all fine for a drink or two but they get extremely crowded and noisy later and if you're over 21 they'll probably all blend into one big meat market.
