This monument is part of a more spacious complex identified as the country house of Maecenas, the political advisor of the Emperor Augustus who lived in the first century B.C. Maecenas is most famous for his support of poets and artists, hence his name has become the eponym for a "patron of arts". The painted decorations with Dionysian scenes and miniature gardens are gorgeous. Advanced reservation is needed here.
