Directly across the street you will find Commodore Barry park, acquired by the city of Brooklyn in 1836 and named after Commodore Barry who helped found the Navy Yard just to the north. It features a lawn, benches, and a free lap pool open in the summer. The sports field, kid's playground and basketball courts further west are scheduled for renovation in the next 12 months, a long-awaited face lift for Brooklyn's oldest park.
