Llanthony Priory is a partly ruined former Augustinian priory in the secluded Vale of Ewyas.
The remains of Llanthony Priory were incorporated many years ago into a hotel. But most of the abbey can be explored for free - amongst the stunning backdrop of the Llanthony valley. The Priory was one of the casualties of Henry VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries.
Ancient Priory complete with a pub in the ruins. The journey to it from Hay-on-Wye takes you through the gospel pass in the Black Mountains. Mostly single track with passing places, stunning views.
You can actually walk to Llanthony from The Groves - you might want a head start by driving to the Red Darren car park!
