“A remarkable museum, a gem”, Sir David Attenborough. Built on the site of Mary Anning’s home, Lyme Regis Museum stands in the heart of the town, just where the beautiful coastlines of Dorset and Devon meet on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The sea views from the museum’s new Mary Anning Wing are stunning
Downstairs is mainly about Lyme's connection with the sea and upstairs is devoted to fossils, especially Mary Anning. It's a great little museum right by the sea.
This is a brilliant little museum; the staff are friendly and enthusiastic. There is a huge amount of fascinating local history and geological exhibits. It's in a building that is as fascinating as it's contents and has strong links to the story of Mary Anning, Lyme Regis's most famous fossil hunter.
