Bergen was built on maritime activities, thus, the Maritime museum shows the history of the town in a nutshell. Starting in stone ages, via viking ships, to middle ages, and a good presentation of the 20th century. The museum is on the top of the ridge, just 300 meters away. A perfect place on a rainy day. Also a great place for children.
Have you ever wondered why Norway is known as a seafaring nation? Bergen Maritime Museum tells the story of Norwegian seafaring over thousands of years and about Bergen – the maritime city that has always had its gaze fixed outwards, towards the rest of the world.
If you are interested in the history of shipping and boating in Bergen, this is the museum for you!
