At Mallyan Spout the deep sides of the ravine have been cut by the flowing water of West Beck which has eroded its path through the sandstone . The sides of the ravine are about 70 feet high and nearly almost vertical. It is at its most spectacular after rain but the rocks can be dangerous after rain so take care under foot.
a lovely walk to a natural waterfall, it's pretty special if it's rained the day before or if it's cold it's know to freeze! Take the steam train to Goathland and walk through the village until you get to Mallyan Spout Hotel and follow the public footpath down the side.
This walk is stunning! The walk from Goathland has many spectacular moments with great views both local and distant and in late summer the heather bloom is one of the most incredible sights. Then of course there are the waterfalls which need care taken when visiting but are well worth the effort.
The Mallyan Spout Waterfall is worth the visit. You can either head down the rail trail and turn left at the Incline Cottage or you can head up to the Mallyan Spout Hotel and there is a gate at the side of the mallyan spout cafe which will take you down to the waterfall. You will need appropriate footwear on and be prepared to scramble over some slippey rocks to see it.
