The German Fountain was dedicated to the memory of the Emperor, who came to Turkey three times, to come to Istanbul for the second time in 1898. In his first visit, the Ottoman army sold German rifles in 1889. Wilhelm had promised to give the Baghdad Railway to German companies during his second visit to Istanbul. Built by the German government to commemorate this visit, the fountain was designed based on a drawing of the emperor.
