From the photo, this looks a little more impressive than it is but is a nice place for a picnic on a sunny day and is close to the historic market town of Oswestry, if you need bigger shops during your stay with us, which is 16 miles from The Old Station Annexe.
Very local castle, with swans nesting at front and food available to order on take out basis.
I love this castle, it is mainly a ruin but the towers/gatehouse is complete. There is a moat with plenty of ducks and swans. The tearoom is fabulous. Run by a community trust. Not far from Owestry. Where to eat - The cafe at the castle. There are several pubs in Whittington serving food, but I prefer The Queens Head in nearby Queens Head.
Norman Castle - although rebuilt in the 13th Century with stone towers and a moat. It is community owned through a local fundraising effort and it sits in 12 acres of parkland and mature trees. There are live re-enactments on the first weekend in May, and a living history weekend in late July.
