Located behind Sensoji Temple in Asakusa, an area alive with traditional downtown culture, this is the oldest onigiri (rice ball) specialty shop in Tokyo. From high-quality ingredients arranged on their showcase – such as ume plums from Wakayama, shirasu (whitebait) from Hyogo and cod roe from Hokkaido – the rice balls are made to order right in front of your eyes. Wrapped in kyougi (a finely shaved sheet of pinewood) just like in the old days, they can be taken away to eat as you stroll around Asakusa. Or if you prefer, you can stay in the stylish shop and enjoy one of five specially selected varieties of Japanese tea.
