The city has had three cathedrals. The first was St Mary's, a monastic building, of which only a few ruins remain. The second was St Michael's, a 14th-century Gothic church later designated as a cathedral, which remains a ruined shell after its bombing during the Second World War. Coventry Cathedral is well worth a visit, but alongside it you will find the ruins of the earlier Cathedral that was bombed during the blitz WWII. You can still climb the tower and enjoy some great views of the city. Within 100 yards of these two sites you can find the ruins of the earlier Cathedral which was only found more recently when the New Buildings were being built.
