Fern Glade Reserve is just 3.9km from the Burnie city centre. A beautiful easy, flat walk that meanders alongside the Emu River and the chance to see platypus surfacing. The Reserve, which also offers barbecue and picnic facilities and toilets, can be accessed by vehicles at the main entrance.
Fern Glade is literally 3 minutes off the highway but you seem a world away. It is where I picnicked with family as a child and enjoyed peaceful short walks as an adult. I have been lucky enough to watch the Platypus play, many times, on the banks of the Emu river. There is a Friends of Fern Glade Face Book group if you are looking for more info.
Fern Glade Reserve is one of Burnie's most valuable natural and recreational resources. A peaceful river valley on the edge of the city abundant in flora and fauna. Amazing bird and wildlife thrive along the river banks. Varieties of orchids and fungi flourish under the bush canopy. Fern Glade Reserve is just 3.9km from the City centre (Post Office) to the main entrance and it offers long walks along the banks of the Emu River and the chance to see platypus surfacing.
