Free museum where you can walk through a UWS brownstone and look at mystical paintings of the Himalayas
Most New Yorkers have not heard of this small brownstone museum of a peculiar painter, who left Russia to come to the States, but ended up in the Himalayas. A blend of cultures and spirituality.
Museum in a town house devoted to the work of Nicholas Roerich, who was interested in Himalayan Buddhism and painted there in the 1930s. Interesting work, quiet environment. Roerich also designed the sets for the original performances of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.
